UK artist, NAO is certainly making her mark with her distinct vocal style, gaining much attention from fellow counterparts. Off the heels of her debut full-length album For All We Know, that was released last summer and shot to #17 on the UK chart, we now have a remix EP featuring five songs from For All We Know. The remixes are provided by Kaytranada, SBTRKT, Mura Masa, Sam Gellaitry, Stormzy, and LOXE. Kaytranada manages to incorporate his heavy driving bass on “Get to Know Ya,” while still maintaining the song’s sensitivity. SBTRKT’s flip of “Bad Blood” is sensory in soundscape and percussion, and Mura Masa brings a little dancehall to “In the Morning.”
Born and raised in East London, NAO graduated from Guildhall School of Music & Drama where she studied Jazz vocal. She went on to become a vocal coach, dabbling in background vocals for various artists before focusing on a solo career. Her early work from 2014 attracted label attention, however, NAO preferred the challenge of independently releasing her music by launching her own label Little Toyko. In 2014 she released So Good EP and in 2015, she released her second EP February 15. Often compared to contemporaries like Kelela and FKA Twigs, NAO brings more traditional R&B to her format, incorporating funk with a little pop on top, and is positively influenced by Janet Jackson, singing of love and disappointments, with an angelic tone, that is someone reminiscent of late 90s early 2000s singer Gaelle.
