With Drunk‘s album release drawing near, Thundercat drops another single, and this one may be the realest in subject matter to-date. Unrequited love is a place of frustration, longing for reciprocation, that never comes. Thundercat finds himself in this position on “Friend Zone” and is at his wits end. Hysterically funny in songwriting, from him preferring to stay home and play Mortal Kombat than hang out with this friend, who he doesn’t want to be just friends with. “Friend Zone” is a conversation that plays in your head, and you’re never given the opportunity to express it. Now, That’s that bullsh*t” as Thundercat sings! But within all the complaints and declarations of new behaviours, “Friend Zone” is driven by Thundercat’s unmistakable bass and futuristic keys. It’s fun. Check it out below. And remember, Drunk is scheduled to release February 24, on Brainfeeder and will include Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus, Kamasi Washington, Pharrell Williams, and Wiz Khalifa on tracks.
