Perfectly timed for the month of love, Cecilia Stalin hits us with The Love EP, a modern mix of songs that infuse jazz, neo soul, and hip hop beats. On The Love EP, Cecilia works primarily with beat makers than jazz musicians, and the end result is an experimentation with different vocal styles and flow. Opening with the pulsating “You Are…” with its rhythmic bass groove performed by esteemed bassist, Dean Mark (who has worked with the likes of Roy Ayers, Najee, Don Blackman, Craig David,  Lulu, Earth Wind & Fire) and featuring New York-based rapper Stimulus, Cecilia’s vocals envelop you in a soft and comforting embrace. Throughout the EP, we hear vulnerability, how the energy of love can cause a flurry of emotions, from longing to wanting, to freedom, and lust. “Falling into Deep” and “Free” leaves us wanting a Dego collaboration; her voice and his sophisticated funk based grooves would be an incredible pairing. Check both tracks out below, then head over to Cecilia’s Bandcamp to hear the rest of the EP, that includes production from Sam Champ, Andre Yancey, Eric Espino, and Troy Broadcite.
