West Coast rapper, producer and DJ, Kero One is an example of hard work and perseverance. He self-released his debut single “Check the Blueprints” in 2003, literally—by making 50 presses of the 12 inch and doing all marketing and PR himself. The single landed in a small record store in Tokyo, Japan where a few weeks later a Japanese DJ played it at a party and the rest is history. Fast forward to four solo albums, critical acclaim from a wide array of people, and collaborations with Talib Kweli, Aloe Blacc, Ben Westbeech, DJ Mitsu, to name a few. His latest project is Kesna Music, a duo comprising of himself and West Coast singer Esna, who Kero discovered from a YouTube video which had amassed close to a million views on a song called “Jam Session 2.0” back in 2010. And she would soon collaborate on “Fast Life” from his Kinetic World album. “Is It Love?” is a very catchy song, where Ensa‘s vocals are reminiscent of Amy Winehouse and Kero‘s big band production makes it an all-round fun track. Looking forward to hearing more from the duo.
The single is available on iTunes.
