“Reach Out Richard” was released in time for Father’s Day that just passed, and it is pure gold! Most Daddy songs hardly ever reflect positivity. From The Temptations to Shaquille O’Neal, our fathers haven’t gotten a break in song for quite some time. Mayer Hawthorne breaks the mold and gives us an inspirational song, as an ode to a great father who nurtured and protected him, and now as a grown man, “Reach Out Richard” is an appreciation for the lessons learned, and a solid foundation to the man Hawthorne plans to be. Produced by Pharrell Williams, who seems to be on a roll at the moment with his most recent productions, “Reach Out Richard” has a Steely Dan influence which further builds upon Hawthorne’s brand on taking the old into the new.
Mayer Hawthorne‘s new album Where Does This Door Go is scheduled to release July 16 through Republic Records and is available for pre-order. Check out “Reach Out Richard” below.
