Over the years I got my hands on a few of Gensu Dean‘s remixes and was excited when I heard he penned a 3 album deal with the label Mello Music Group.
“Alice In Wonderland” is taken from Dean’s Lo-Fi Fingahz which was released back in February. Featuring the charismatic David Banner rhyming about an abused young woman who has grown up making questionable and reckless choices. Banner’s delivery goes well with the neck snapping drums and sampled guitars on the beat.
The video is the brainchild of Calvan Fowler and incorporates elements of Lewis Carroll’s classic novel Alice In Wonderland and some trippy, psychedelic visuals. Ironically, the song isn’t about saving a damsel in distress or “being anybody’s savior,” but more about chronicling the struggle of a young woman’s journey from abused child to a woman who eventually takes control of her own life.
Lo-Fi Fingahz is available on iTunes, Amazon.com, and can be ordered on vinyl at Fat Beats. Gensu has an upcoming project with the legendary West Coast MC, Planet Asia, slated for release on Mello Music Group.
