The Courtney John Project – “Black Cinderella” (Audio)

Slowly but surely Courtney John is subverting reggae music to different soundscapes, yet keeping it completely authentic. “Black Cinderella” is the third single to be featured on The Courtney John Project that uses the musical acumen of Nastassja “The Wizard” Hammond and Grammy winning musician Steven “Lenky” Marsden. So far what we’ve heard from The Courtney John Project is a provocative approach to fusing contemporary musical styles together creating their own genre “rootstronic.” “Black Cinderella” is a cover of the Erroll Dunkley classic, where Courtney‘s trademark Lovers Rock vocals haunt the track as The Wizard and Lenky build the song in layers. It is a sonic journey into dub-electronica with a militaristic style as the horns cower the track with a level of mystery. It’s fresh! Check it out below.
