Thundercat – “Apocalypse” (Audio)

thundercat-apocalypse
Apocalypse in some ways could be regarded as a farewell to Austin Peralta, a keyboardist who was part of Flying Lotus‘s group of exemplary contributing musicians, who passed away from pneumonia last November, right before Thundercat was about to start production on Apocalypse. What we get is a more introspective Thundercat, questioning mortality, looking at the metaphysical, in bright and dark ways. Featuring his stellar electric bass arrangements, Apocalypse definitely has that FlyLo stamp but with Thundercat, he incorporates a more jazz funk fusion flair, particularly on “Lotus and the Jondy” where the crashing drum solo and the murmuring of the electric guitar at it’s backdrop is for great listening. On each track, Thundercat‘s spidery bass and falsetto vocals, tote between interesting and downright beautiful shows a musician’s growth. Looking forward to many years of this man’s work.
