Paul White – “Street Lights” feat. Danny Brown (Free Download)

Thursday, March 28th, 2013

paul-white
In recent years, South London producer Paul White is definitely leaning back towards producing more and more hip hop, with the release of Rapping with Paul White and particularly collaborating with Detroit rapper, Danny Brown on his album XXX and his forthcoming album Old.  So it is no surprise that the leading single for Paul White‘s next project Street Lights features the Detroit native.   “Street Lights” is dark and menacing where the instrumentalization, especially the hard drums and percussion, give the track  fullness as Danny Brown paints a doomsday picture of Detroit. The EP is scheduled to release April 14, but you can download the single below or pre-order the EP on Bandcamp.

DJ House Shoes – “Rapping with Paul White Mixtape” (Free Download)

Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

DJ House Shoes with Paul WhiteSouth London producer Paul White, who is known largely for his hip hop futuristic beats has gotten reworked by Michael “DJ HouseShoes” Buchanan (can I just say, I love that name!). Taking Paul White‘s recent beats and reworking them into original rap productions with the likes of Guilty Simpson, plus unreleased beats and remixes of A Tribe Called Quest and Nas, this 30-minute mixtape is an ode to classic hip hop with a difference, and the difference being the future. Through his House Shoes Recordings, DJ HouseShoes pressed the now classic Jay Dee – Unreleased EP (1996), Phat Kat – Dedication To The Suckers 12 (1999), and Houseshoes – Loungin’ (2004).  What’s cool about this project, is you get to hear these rappers in a different musical light; and it works. Check it out below. Rapping With Paul White hits stores August 22 on a 2 LP release and digital formats. You can get the download below or here.

One-Handed Music Teams with Labels for Compilation “Label Love Vol. 2″ (Free Download)

Friday, December 17th, 2010

I absolutely love it when love hits my in-box! This love is in the form of Label Love Vol. 2, a project spawn from One-Handed Music, where they join forces with other independent labels to put tunes together that are either community staples, or previously unreleased. This eclectic collection of tunes feature some of our favored independent labels – Melting Pot, Ninja Tune, One-Handed, Plug Research, Tru Thoughts, and Ubiquity. What’s apparent in this compilation is the distinct identity each label has in sound. Very nice treats from Ahu, Maddslinky, Bilal, Paul White, Full Crate, and many others! Did I mention that this is a free download in courtesy of One-Handed Music! Check out my favs below and head over to the Bandcamp page for the free download!

Paul White & The Purple Brain

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Innovative South London producer, Paul White has done it again. With each album, he pushes the beatmaking envelope a tad bit further. On The Purple Brain, Paul White pays homage to ST. Mikael, a Swedish psychedelic multi-instrumentalist, whose music is heavily influenced by the middle East and otherworldly interests he followed since a child – so you never know what you’ll get from him productions.

Paul White has swallowed a dose of ST. Mikael and fused it to his own sound, creating something that is uniquely hip-hop but blends in other musical genres into something quite fascinating. Psychedelic in tonality, reminiscent of The Doors and Janis Joplin, the hard ripping guitars and pulsating drums make The Purple Brain a delightful listening journey.

Check out a couple of tracks below, then head over to Paul White‘s bandcamp to purchase the album. The album is available in three formats — in CD format, a high-quality Arigato pack with original artwork by Amy de Nobriga. The Arigato Pak is a new cardboard fold-up CD case, printed using environmentally-friendly vegetable-based inks; in the 2 LP format, the first press of 1000 copies includes a bonus 12″ featuring Guilty Simpson on “Ancient Treasure,” plus two remixes by Paul White and all instrumentals; and in digital format. Get in there folks!

Paul White & the Purple Brain “Ancient Treasures” (Download)

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

Here’s the first tune off Paul White & the Purple Brain‘s sophomore album, “Ancient Treasures.” The South London producer, Paul White, largely known for his inventiveness when creating sounds, is pushing the envelop even further. Usually, his beats are more hip hop oriented, with Paul White & the Purple Brain, the sounds are futuristic and airy, taking from the intense sounds of the psychedelic era of the 60s, with the crazy penetrating guitar riffs and keyboard sounds, mixing it with a hip hop pulse. I’m excited to hear this album when it comes out this year.

Check out the tune below “Ancient Treasure” below, which is available for a free download from Paul White’s One-Handed Music Website.
