Mark Pritchard and Nathan Fake Remixes of Radiohead

It is always a treat to hear how artists are inspired by super band Radiohead. If you can’t imagine Radiohead getting any darker, sprinkle some Mark Pritchard and Nathan Fake on them, and they become so dark, its harrowing. These sounds leave you in a trance-like displacement, as though you were transported from your current surroundings for 5 to 6 minutes at a time. Both producers contributed remixes to the new Radiohead 12-inch — Mark Pritchard offering two versions of “Bloom” (one under his name and the other under his moniker, Harmonic 313) and Nathan Fake, a remix of “Morning Mr. Magpie.” The mixes are serious. They are available for purchase in vinyl and digital formats from Bleep or wherever good music is sold.  Check them out below.

Mark Pritchard – “Heavy As A Stone”

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

I absolutely LOVE this tune. It’s somewhat different coming from Mark Pritchard, who goes by many recording names and monikers, and is primarily known for making the illest dubstep tunes. I’ve joked with friends that his neighbours must hate him as his basslines are killers; they can drive out any unwanted spirit. “Heavy As A Stone” is a 12″ released on Deep Medi Music, with two versions of the track–”Elephant Dub” which features Mark’s usual dark, reverberating basslines with futuristic synths and percussion arrangements that can cause a sound system to retire. On the flip-side is a beautiful yet sleepy vocal, spoken word alternative with kalimba type sounds and rich lyrics such as, “There’s a beautiful song that is heard…It begins with an African word…” The tune is like a revival, embracing yourself and who you are. I’m in love with it!

Check it out below. It’s available for purchase on Sounds of the Universe in 12″ format.

Harmonic 313 – When Machines Exceed Human Intelligence

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

mark_pritchardHarmonic 313 is Mark Pritchard, not to be confused with UK Labor Party MP either, though it would be dope if there was a relationship (hahaha). With When Machines Exceed Human Intelligence he does what my friend calls a sound bwoy burial. Truly, your ears will never feel the same once hearing this album. It’s dark, no smiling at all! His choice of beats, use of sounds is so far to the next level, I wonder what goes through his mind whilst eating his cereal in the morning!

A long-standing artist on Warp Records, Pritchard has worked with some amazing rappers in underground hip hop. Recently, he collaborated with Om’Mas Keith from Sa Ra Creative Partners on “Wind it Up,” Elzhi on “Battlestar” also featuring Phat Kat, and GoldieLocks, and Steve Spacek. He has such an extensive rap sheet, I suggest you do some research, and get your ears chewed out, starting here on iTunes.

Just so you know what I’m talking about, below are a couple of tunes, that are guaranteed to have your head banging. It’s muphorically sound!
