Jay Electronica – “Shiny Suit Theory” feat. Jay-Z & The Dream + “The Announcement” feat. JFK (Download + Poll)

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

Jay Electronica has finally gotten himself a major record deal. The façade looks perfect - signed to the label run by one of raps most authentic heavy weights in the business, Jay-Z — who’s not only an exemplary business man, but an outstanding lyricist. Sounds like a win-win situation really. However, when you look at the history of both artists, Jay-Z, notorious for signing artists and not releasing music by them and Jay Electronica‘s sporadic style of releasing music—we could certainly be in for a long wait.

At the advent of signing to Roc Nation, saw the release of the following tunes to get us excited about what’s to come. ”Shiny Suit Theory” featuring Jay-Z and The Dream, in my opinion, is not the strongest out the two tunes, however, Jigga Man’s verse clearly gives him the lyrical edge on the track. Oddly enough, I don’t hear The Dream on the cut (tell me if you do). But “The Announcement” opens with a militaristic style drum sequence as John F. Kennedy‘s Rice University speech about the US Space Effort in 1962 plays over the track. The JFK quote, “We choose to go to the moon!” gives the song an inspirational air as Jay Elect‘s fluid delivery leaves you hanging on every word. I can’t wait for his album!

Listen to the tunes below and take the poll to see what the favored tune is.

It seems that The Roots Picnic is notorious for feeling like the hottest day of the year – not simply based on who’s on the roster, but the smelting heat one experiences the day of the picnic. Having never attended The Roots Picnic in the past, the general consensus was the conditions are uncomfortable, but the musical acts make it bearable. I definitely can agree. Check out what Muphoric Sounds caught from the show, featuring The Roots, Foreign Exchange, YahZarah, Nneka, Mayer Hawthorne, Jay Electronica, John Legend, and Wu-Massacre.

Jay Electronica – “The Ghost of Christopher Wallace” (Download)

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

The Ghost of Christopher Wallace” was all over the net yesterday, and again, Jay Electronica delivers! The only flaw with this tune is the featuring of Diddy. Yeah, I said it! The hype got far too many bars on the tape – half of the song!!  Jay Elect gave Diddy his shout out with “a bottle of Ciroc will turn a private jet to soul plane,” that should have been enough. I would have preferred another verse from Jay with Diddy on the fade out. Despite that, the tune is solid and Jay Elect’s command is as though Biggie was channeled for it. He declared on Twitter shortly after  download links went flying, “With the aid of Almighty God and the People, we are gonna turn this rap shit back on a trillion like it should be.” There’s no doubt in my mind that he’s not capable of doing this! We patiently wait…

Listen to “The Ghost of Christopher Wallace” below.

Jay Electronica – “A Million in the Morning” (Movie Trailer & Download)

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

We seem to be clamoring at Jay Electronica‘s every word. Anything that hits, starts a media frenzy. It’s unfathomable why he does not have an album to his name yet! The following track is the theme music to the new Direct-to-DVD documentary, entitled A Million in the Morning, a documentary which follows Gavin McInnes as he stays awake for 5 days to compete for a Guinness Book of World Record for the person to watch the most consecutive movies without sleeping. What you get is an unraveling of a guy as he begins to loose his chops. The track is dark and has that harrowing feel, which is probably perfect for the movie’s subject. Check out the trailer below to hear the tune and let me know what you think!

Thanks to our friends over at Nah Right for providing links to download the tune – UserShare and MediaFire. The DVD can also be purchased through Amazon.
