One thing that can be said about Georgia Anne Muldrow, is the velocity in which she releases music. From the start of her career has been a steady flow of music – highlighting her closeness to funk with heavy basslines and a grit that holds a certain level of masculinity, yet delicate enough in its femininity.

Seeds, set to release next week, March 27 on SomeOthaship Connection features a difference – this is the first time GAM has worked with another producer outside of partner, Dudley Perkins. GAM has joined forces with hip-hop heavy weight producer, Madlib. The musical union between GAM and Madlib, is somewhat of an extension of previous works, with more grit and experimentation while still having her unique ability to create that rugged old soul we’ve grown to love over the years.

This completely hit me left field, with a resounding, “Wow!” ISHE + HEZEKIAH PROJECT‘s “Hold On” in it’s original form has a sexy, sleepy musical arrangement, with a tinge of electric guitars in the background. This remix, by the incredibly talented Georgia Anne Muldrow, turns up the heat, magnifies the bass into a dirty grind, and the electric guitar become an unmistakeable roar. THEN we have Australian duo, Stephen Tannos and Morgan Choice with outstanding interpretive dance. I absolutely LOVE this! A couple of weeks ago, Georgia Anne Muldrow released VWETO, exclusively through iTunes and now, on its vinyl release, her current label for this project, Mello Music Group, are giving “Pad Kontrol” and “fOnkRocker” as a free download.

VWETO, which means gravity in Ki-Kongo, is a perfect title for this album of instruments. West Coast in origin, but carries a fluid and expansive musical arrangements that is the Georgia Anne Muldrow signature sound, but unlike what you’ve heard her produce in the past. Her sounds tend to have a level of masculinity to the production, as displayed in “fOnkRocker,” but yet, she’s able to add softness to hard hitting beats such as “Lil Layers” with a melodic piano arrangement. Just like her voice, VWETO is a layering of sounds and instruments to take us on a journey that is as natural as gravity.

What can really be said about this multi-talented singer, songwriter, producer, musician? Only that she deserves all the accolades she’s received to date. Georgia Anne Muldrow‘s self-released debut album Olesi: Fragments Of An Earth got the attention of Platinum Pied Pipers and Sa-Ra, who later had her on their own projects. Olesi caught the ear of Peanut Butter Wolf, who quickly signed her to his Stones Throw label and re-released her debut in 2006 on his label.

What so great about this young lady is she’s only 22-years-old! Her right-hand man in music is Dudley Perkins and the two are known as the Ashford & Simpson, Rene & Angela in the game as their music creations are magical. Her rugged and raspy vocals are often layered in a floaty melodic way; the J Dilla influence is apparent with the hard yet smooth edge. Surrounded by a cabal group of R&B non-conformists, her creative juices are completely uninhibited. Her latest release Georgia Anne Muldrow Presents… Ms. One & The Gang cannot be compared to her previous solo releases but what this album does show, is an artist growing into her craft and is able to consistently produce good music – regardless of who is on the mic or boards. Ms. One & The Gang shows us that Georgia Anne Muldrow is an artist we should watch grow.
