Set to release his sophomore album One of Many on Fat Beats, Eric Lau‘s journey has been one for the story books. Releasing his debut New Territories back in 2008, garnered much attention and led him to creating seminal productions with Dego, Guilty Simpson, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Lupe Fiasco, and Oddisee. He has grown into a unique producer who is unafraid of creating themes that force him to explore new sounds.

Where To Go Now” featuring Tawiah (who has bloomed into an incredible artist over the years) is the first single from One of Many and really is this year’s summer soundtrack. The album has Lau call on his usual cohorts, including Rahel, Fatima, Olivier St. Louis, and Georgia Anne Muldrow, where he collaborates extensively with multi-instrumentalist, Kaidi Tatham (Bugz in the Attic) on the album.

Check out “Where to Go Now” below; One of Many is set to release 17th June.

Eric Lau – “The Mission” feat. Guilty Simpson (Audio)

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

A little late on posting this tune, but “The Mission” is hot as hell. Eric Lau‘s gritty dirty bass and beats will have your head nodding instantaneously, then as Detroit’s own Guilty Simpson drops in, “Beelau!” it’s solid. Transatlantic culture poses no limitations and the concept behind this very tune of being on a mission is true to life, with Lau from the UK and Guilty Simpson, Detroit. Check out the single below, which is scheduled to release tomorrow on Kilawatt Music and will include a ‘fonky’ remix by Georgia Anne Muldrow.

Eric Lau – “Star Trekking” (Free Download)

Monday, February 7th, 2011

We all would love to have intergalactic powers, but unfortunately, we don’t. After being inspired by the book, Quadrivium: Number Geometry Music Heaven—a book which looks at the relationships between the number, geometry, music and cosmology as a way of understanding the nature of reality (sounds heavy…MUST read!)—UK producer Eric Lau, sat before his mixing table and created Quadrivium; an exploration of these concepts. “Star Trekking” is that tune—you have to sit with it, listen to it, and bask in it as your mind travels through space and sounds. Quadrivium is set to release Feb 25th on Kilawatt Music through iTunes, Spotify, eMusic with a limited press in vinyl. Check out the tune below and watch the short video where Lau talks about Quadrivium – it will open you up!

Olivier DaySoul – “Finer Things” with Music by Eric Lau (Free Download)

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

Yes, Muphoric Sounds is on the Olivier DaySoul bandwagon. How could one not?! The Washington, DC native, now based in the UK, recently did the Mr. Saint Louis EP, with producer Oddisee (if you missed it, you can check it out here). On “Finer Things,” DaySoul teams with UK producer Eric Lau, where  Lau brings in a classic soul groove with great percussion and key arrangements. DaySoul lays a sexy falsetto on top, making the tune butter. Not sure if it will appear on DaySoul‘s forthcoming album, but to get a sense of what DaySoul is about, the video below is from Put Me On It and Homebase NYC CMJ showcase at Southpaw in Brooklyn earlier this year.

Eric Lau “Warm It Up” Mix (Download)

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Über-talented UK producer, Eric Lau put together a mix for Andrew Menza’s BTS Radio show. What sets Eric apart from the rest is his ability to manipulate sound. Heavily influenced by some of hip hop’s most innovative producers — Pete Rock, Jay Dilla, ?uestlove, and taking from the smooth vibes provided by outstanding musicians in jazz and soul, Warm It Up is a mixture of tunes to warm and soothe you during these winter months when the weather is unkind. This is a melodically sexy compilation including the tunes of rappers, singers, and instrumentals from Robert Glasper, legendary Herbie Hancock, and the late great Curtis Mayfield. All of this, free, for your listening pleasure. Eric is currently working on his second full-length album,  and by the selections made for Warm It Up, it will be far cry from the run of the mill type productions that currently permeates our airwaves.
