Dezaray Dawn – “Over It” (Free Download)

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

After releasing her self-produced EP Chameleon towards the end of  2009, Dezaray Dawn has been steadily building her catalogue. Last year she collaborated with UK producer Marc Mac (of 4Hero) on her second EP Deep. Now with “Over It,” the first single from her forthcoming album The Dawning, set to release in June, stays close to her musical sensibilities in funk soul, adding a little broken beat flare to it. It’s fresh. Check it out below and head over to her bandcamp for download.

Dezaray Dawn – “Deep EP” Produced by Marc Mac (Audio)

When I hear music from Dezaray Dawn, I’m always left wanting more! But EP’s are what they are, a couple of tracks to hold you over till the next project. Since her debut EP, Chameleon, which was featured on Muphoric Sounds back in 2009, Dezaray has spent the better part of 2010 getting her music into the right hands. Now with her second EP, entitled Deep that is produced by Marc Mac of 4Hero, the two combine their styles to give us four tracks that perfectly compliment the sound of Dezaray Dawn.

Giving us a taste of the first track “Sail Away” last month, it’s great to hear the completed EP. My favourite track off the EP is “Rain,” which is very reminiscent of the UK underground nu soul which was born from the likes of 4Hero and Bugz in the Attic. Check out “Rain” below, then head over to Dezaray Dawn‘s Bandcamp page to buy the EP.

Towards the end of 2009, Muphoric Sounds introduced you to the multi-talented Dezaray Dawn with her debut EP Chameleon, which lent itself to the sounds of Broken Beat, nu soul, and afrobeats, with a tinge of hip hop. What was even more surprising with Dezaray, is that she practically produced and arranged Chameleon by herself. Now a member of the Futuristic Soul Society — a group of singers and producers across the US, including Iman Williams, Velben, Buscrates, and Porsche Smith, Dezaray’s music clearly has gotten in front of the right people. Her 2nd EP Deep, scheduled to release on May 28th, will be produced by UK-producer Marc Mac (of 4Hero). He’s a perfect match for Dezaray, as her sound skirts between the soul and the alternative – Marc Mac, I am certain will hone in on those qualities. Check out the appetizer track “Sail Away” — it will make you want to sail to wherever it is that she’s going to.

Dezaray Dawn

There are so many artists out there who possess great talent and go unsupported. Every year American Music Awards illustrates that it’s nothing more than a farce, and harks to why I love talking about artists who deserve to be noted, in one way or another. It’s even better when you learn of an artist by “chance” too! This young woman is Dezaray Dawn. German-born, by military parents, Dezaray moved from city to city in gypsy-like fashion, experiencing different ways of life through travel. It’s no wonder solace was found in music. Now residing in Atlanta, a musical capital for classic R&B and hip hop bands, it was truly refreshing to find Chameleon, a 5-song EP featuring smooth future electronic soul sounds, with laid back mellow vocals, that match the grooves equally. Expecting to learn that a European producer in the Broken Beat, future sounds collective was a part of the production — but to the contrary, it’s quite the opposite. Dezaray Dawn produced Chameleon on her own, with just a little help from friend William “Crisis” Holt for additional keyboards.  Check out the two songs below and then head over to Dezarary’s Bandcamp page to buy a copy of the EP. You can name your price in excess of $5; it’s worth it.
