UK producer, Bonobo‘s (a.k.a. Simon Green) profile has been steadily rising since his debut release Animal Magic in 2001 on Tru Thoughts. From scoring music for popular TV shows such as LostCalifornicationThe L Word, and CSI. First introduced to his music through work with Andreya Triana, where he produced her debut album, Lost Where I Belong and which featured “Tea Leaf Dancers,” produced by Flying Lotus. It only makes sense that Bonobo ups the antenna to collaborate with Erykah Badu (who were both featured artists at last year’s Decibel Festival in Seattle).

Heaven For the Sinner” starts off a little unsettling, as in not knowing where or what direction Badu vocals are going to take the track. It’s as though your mind waits for the blend and it suddenly does, and then you just float along with it. Bonobo‘s music always contains expansive elements that work in a way to relax. It’s quite amazing. Check it out below. “Heaven For the Sinner” is taken from Bonobo‘s forthcoming album The North Borders.

Andreya Triana Debut Album “Lost Where I Belong” (Video + Download)

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Andreya Triana has one of those musical stories that follows the basic principal — with talent, coupled with hard work and determination, bring results. From attending the Red Bull Academy in 2006 (if you know anything about the vigorous application process and program, you’d know only people with exemplary talent are accepted into the program!) to being the dreamy vocalist on Flying Lotus‘s “Tea Leaf Dancers,” in 2007, which became a global underground sensation, Triana is one of those artists who I expect to be around for a very long time.

Her debut, Lost Where I Belong, which was released yesterday, is an honest journey through music with Triana, bringing in an amalgamation of sounds that come together into what is Andreya Triana. Produced by her collaborative partner, Bonobo, known primarily for his downtempo beats, Bonobo created sounds that complimented Triana‘s voice, knowing exactly when to filter the music in ways which allowed Triana‘s warm, soulful, yet jazzy vocals to come forward in her beautiful sound.

Our friends over at Put Me On it attended the Soundwave Festival in Croatia this summer, and filmed the video below of Triana performing “Lost Where I Belong.” It’s outdoor, it’s intimate, and it’s quite lovely. We get to see Triana perform with such warmth and intimacy. Enjoy!

Triana‘s “Draw the Stars” is featured in this week’s iTunes’s “Single Of The Week“ for free download. You can also purchase the album in its full entirety at Ninja Tunes. Check out a couple of tunes below taken from the Lost Where I Belong.

Bonobo – Black Sands (Video & Download)

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Bonobo (a.k.a. Simon Green), producer and DJ, released his debut album Animal Magic (2001, Tru Thoughts), in the category of trip-hop and quickly garnered the title of “new downtempo pioneer.”  Since then he has released Dial M for Monkey (2003, Ninja Tune) and Days to Come (2006, Ninja Tune) receiving a lot of attention from labels and critics alike.  Now with his latest release, and a ton of notoriety attached to his name, is Black Sands. Bonobo brings elements of jazz, hip hop, and electronica into his works, creating these chilled medleys of music which fall softly like fresh, fluffy snow. The instrumentals are full, where each composition unfolds like a crescendo of emotion. His music has appeared in many popular TV shows such as Lost, Californication, The L Word, and CSI, to name a few.

Last month, we mentioned Bonobo currently working with Andreya Triana on her solo album, which is scheduled to release this spring; definitely something to be on the look out for. Below is the new video for “Eyesdown” from Black Sands, featuring the dreamy vocals of Andreya Triana. Black Sands hits stores March 29th, and pre-orders will receive a limited edition 5-inch blue vinyl record containing the track “Kiara.” Check out the video below, a couple of cuts off the album, and go to Bonobo’s website for a free download of “Eyesdown” (Warrior One Remix). Enjoy!

Andreya Triana – “Lost Where I Belong” (VIDEO)

Friday, February 12th, 2010

I apologise profusely for not showing any love to Andreya Triana, who has been working tirelessly creating some amazing music! If you’re unfamiliar or didn’t make the connection, Andreya Triana is the owner of the dreamy female vocals on Flying Lotus‘s “Tea Leaf Dancers.” Her solo album is scheduled to release spring of this year (more eargasms!), and will be produced by musical partner Bonobo, the UK DJ/producer primarily known for his downtempo electronic sounds. Bonobo‘s new album, Black Sands is scheduled to release March 29th and features Andreya on a track called “Eyesdown” (check out the sample below). We’re going to hear a lot from this UK native this year. Click through to Andreya’s Myspace page for tour dates; the tour is pretty extensive. I’m pleased to see she’ll be doing two April dates in my city.
