Mayer Hawthorne “Maybe So, Maybe No” (Audio)

Peanut Butter Wolf has found another great artist to add to his ever-growing Stones Throw repertoire. Mayer Hawthorne, takes us back to the soul of yesteryear with his raspy soulful vocals, a cross between Smokey using Jay Dilla’s urban edge. On “Maybe So, Maybe No”, which is reminiscent of an old Motown tune, is no surprise as Mayer is from the Motor City. As his website says, “It’s not just throwback music anymore – this revival is all about progression.” That is exactly what you get when listening to his music. With an interesting Bond-like visual style, with heavy framed glasses and the fitted suits, you think easy listening and are pleasantly surprised by the pure soul.

Not sure of the release date for the album, but keep your eyes on Muphoric Sounds for updates. And for those of you in the New York Area, Mayer will be at Le Poisson Rouge on May 9th.
