Back To The Present Vol.1, is a project spearheaded by Daz-I-Kue (from renowned UK Broken Beat group Bugz In The Attic), whose mission is to create solidarity within communities fighting for social justice and healing stemming from the escalated events over the past few weeks in America. Daz-I-Kue says, “I believe all stand together in the knowledge that when #BlackLivesMatter, everyone benefits.” Each month, Daz will release a Back to the Present volume, a collaborative effort, tapping into his global network of artists. The first volume opens with Dangerfeel Newbies, an Atlanta-based band who teamed with British soul singer, Julie Dexter on “I Gotta Live My Life” where the track is given the “Daz-I-Kue BLM Rinse” treatment. The second song features New York based rapper J-Live on “I’m a Man,” powered in realism, with scenarios that paint the dismal picture of the Black experience in America. The final track “The Ledge,” singer, songwriter and producer, Erik Rico gathers us around his silky voice in the blues, reflecting on the plight of his people but by mid-song, he turns the song into a revival where your spirits are lifted as he takes us off the ledge of doubt and into hope, which is love. Head over to Bandcamp to get your copy of Back to the Present! We can’t wait for the next installment!
