Architecture, the new EP from modern funk, one man band producer, Dâm-Funk (aka Damon Riddick), snuck under the radar with its release; we almost missed it! The 3-track EP features the essence of Dâm-Funk, which is raw and uncut funk. Opening with “Break Out,” which has a repetitive groove reminiscent of Frankie Knuckle‘s “Your Love,” featuring Jamie Principle on vocals. “Hazy Stomp” in its 80s funk glory, includes the forgotten musical bridge, and “Your House” contains the smoothest chord sequence that captures the feeling of calm a man feels visiting his lady’s house, to kick back and unwind.

Dâm-Funk got his start in music by grabbing the attention of Leon Sylvers III in the early 90s, while Sylvers was working with rap act Double Action Theatre, enlisting Dâm-Funk on production for various artists under his wing. Dâm-Funk moved on to working with Master P and AllFrumThaI and soon connected with Peanut Butter Wolf of Stones Throw Records, due to his remix of Baron Zen‘s cover of of The Gap Band‘s “Burn Rubber.” Butter Wolf signed Dâm-Funk to his label, and since 2008, he has gone on to release four studio albums, one of which includes working with his mentor Leon Sylvers III on Invite the Light (2015), dropped five EPs, collaborated with funk legend Steve Arrington on Higher (2013) and Snoop Dogg on 7 Days of Funk (2013), and countless singles.

Architecture is available on all streaming outlets as well as for purchase.
