Childish Gambino – “Because the Internet” (Video + Audio)

childish-gambino-because-the-internetChildish Gambino, the moniker of Donald Glover seems to conjure mixed feelings from listeners — is he a rapper, actor, comedian, or screenwriter? Yes, he’s all of those things and has successfully showcased all facets over the past 10 years. Starting out as an actor on the comedy show Community, he moved on to become one of the writers of NBC’s 30 Rock, winning the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Comedy Series in February 2008, leading him to join a touring comedy sketch group, By 2010, he released mixtapes I Am Just a Rapper, and I Am Just A Rapper 2, leading him to release various albums as he explored the genre of rap music, finding a place to fit in. By 2011, he released his official debut album Camp, an album that featured him showing his vulnerability, honesty, and lyrical wit. Now with his second official release Because the Internet, he shares a darker side to himself and/or what’s around him. You hear the influences of Kanye, 2 Chains, Drake, Frank Ocean riddled with juxtaposed lyrics. Perhaps entitling the album Because the Internet is an excuse for him to tackle so many different production styles, which is done exceedingly well, from the opening track “Crawl” a big burly track featuring with a great hook to “Earth: The Oldest the Computer” a solid dance track, to the more heartfelt tracks such as “Shadows” and “Pink Toes” which features Jhene Aiko, and “3005” which uses murder as a metaphor to describe how he kills relationship. Overall, Because the Internet is a great end to 2013, taking us through 2014. Check out the video for “3005” below, and “Crawl” below.
