Bonobo’s “Migration” is an Immersive Journey Through Sound [Audio]

UK producer, Bonobo (a.k.a Simon Green), now based in Los Angeles, has been one of those artists whose work gets better and better with each release. Often classed as a downtempo electronic producer, Migration is the album to break that mold, as its sounds take us across continents and is his most sophisticated. From being well sought after by TV networks and film for scores (Lost, House of Cards, Californication, Newsroom), Bonobo can now be played on the dance floor. As illustrated with “Kerala,” a sample sounds that creates a mashup of Brandy Norwood‘s vocals, and then the triumphant “Ontario” with its full crescendo arrangement, featuring various cultural elements. The level of delicacy and detail in sound is to be savored. On “Bambro Koyo Ganda” which feature New York based Moroccan collective Innov Gnawa, Bonobo not only embraces their culture through use of the response and chant that they sing in, but the driving bass that drops into track, puts you in a revival like trance.
