De La Soul’s Haunting New Video for “Drawn” feat. Little Dragon

With the second video from their crowdfunded album and the Anonymous Nobody… legendary rap group De La Soul take a somewhat dark approach with the visual treatment of the song “Drawn,” featuring Swedish group Little Dragon. We’re taken into the solitary world of an artist, in how her loneliness starts off as a comforting shield from the world. She dances, she paints, she reads, as Yukimi’s vocals delicately layer the song. With each activity, the woman is being drawn deeper into what is an obvious depression. Towards the end of the song, Posdnous sits in a theatre, facing the stage and cites the lyrics, “Two words (I’m mortal) / But the fans slid ’em both together and removed the apostrophe” is somewhat reflective of De La Soul as a group, questioning their mortality as artists, as the subject in the video confronts hers. Kudos to director, J Anders Urmacher.
