In this time of social unrest in the U.S., it is affirming to hear a song that emphatically calls for solidarity, harmony, and love of self. Sam “Trump” HarrisBrother” is much needed. The Chicago-based trumpeter, singer, songwriter began his career in 2008, and has been touring with hip hop/jazz/soul band Sidewalk Chalk for a few years now, while in his downtime, he works on solo projects. Though the lyrics of “Brother” are somewhat heavy, one cannot deny the positive energy the track omits. “Through my writing, consulting, and performing, my ultimate goal is to inspire others to do whatever it is they love most, with the ambition of positively affecting our society,” says Trump of his work. The song uses the wordplay of Chicago-based rapper Add-2 where his verses add force to Trump’s message. “If he can’t get love, He’ll find a supplement / Express hurt outwardly, Or self inflict, cowardly,” highlighting just how alone our brothers can be in the world, while Trump sings, “This message is to heal, my brother.

Brother” is accompanied by a beautifully edited video to illustrate unity within the community and the track is produced by Calvin Valentine,  also featuring background vocals by Danielle Henderson and Ashley Otis. Check it out below.
