The force of Jordan Rakei has been sending tremors through the universe since the release of his debut EP Franklin’s Room, that received the attention of many heavy hitters in the independent music world. The Brisbane, Australia native’s brand of soul is influenced by Jazz, Hip Hop, Dub, and Deep House, and its vibe is reminiscent of his fellow natives, Hiatus Kaiyote, who are all largely influenced by members of Soulquarians. By 2014, Rakei released his second EP Groove Curse, which led to him being invited to perform at Giles Peterson‘s OnBlackheath Festival in 2015. He co-wrote Disclosure‘s “Masterpiece,” that was featured on their sophomore album and went on receive a Grammy nomination. Now with his lush debut album Cloak, released on Soul Has No Tempo, the multi-instrumentalist provides a perfect combination of live instruments and ethereal sounds that further extend future soul’s influences. The album was inspired by his personal discovery of mediation, separating from the ego, and being one with oneself. Listening to Cloak you hear vulnerability and ease. With guest appearances from fellow Australian’s Remi and Ngaiire and a feature cameo by drummer Richard Spaven on “Toko.”

Cloak released today on Soul Had No Tempo and is available at iTunes | Amazon | Bandcamp and all popular streaming services.

If you missed his Uncloaked video, watch it below where Rakei talks about disrupting his comfort-zone to grow as an artist by moving to the UK, his creative process, and his podcast Are We Live? with fellow musicians Alfa Mist and Tom Misch, and Barney Artist live from Pink Bird Recording Studio in East London.
