Tiombe Lockhart – “Baby” (Video)

Bumping into Tiombe Lockhart at the Bjork concert at the Science Museum in Queens, New York earlier this year, she told me she had some new music coming out for 2012. Refashioning the late reggae singer, Jacob Miller‘s song “Baby I Love You So,” Tiombe takes the song to a darker place with a hypnotic video where the protagonist fools us into thinking this odd couple must be in love but munches on a bag of UTZ’s after a stake is driven into the heart is just cold blooded….and I love it!

First hearing her with the now defunct group Platinum Pied Pipers  on “Stay,” to working on various projects with college alumni Bilal (she did a divine version of his “White Turns to Grey” at a live show), then more recently, the front woman to experimental electronic band Cubic Zirconia, it’s a wonder why Tiombe isn’t a bigger star! Having all the accoutrements of being an eclectic and forward thinking artist, and now with her new found talent of directing music videos – most recently for ERIMAJ for “The Social Life,” we will be hearing a lot more of Tiombe in coming months/years.  Additionally, the Tiombe Tuesdays column on Okayplayer launched at the end of August for the Diva to share some behind the scenes, creative processes and thoughts. Should be interested to say the least. Check out the video for “Baby” below, directed by James Blagden.
